The problem with buying a 3D printer without seeing one first
The 3D printing research rabbit hole is genuinely deep. There are dozens of models at every price point, two fundamentally different technologies (FDM and resin) that produce very different results, hundreds of community forum opinions that contradict each other on the same question, and a gap between what a product photo shows and what a finished print actually looks like that no amount of reading reliably closes.
The two most common outcomes of buying a 3D printer entirely online are buying a more expensive machine than your use case needed, or buying the wrong technology for what you were actually trying to make. Both are avoidable. And the most reliable way to avoid them is to see a printer running and hold a print before you commit to anything.

When both are running at the same time, the difference between the technologies is immediately visible — FDM building a functional part layer by layer in filament, resin pulling a high-detail print from a liquid bath with micron-level resolution.
Seeing both answer the question "which technology do I need?" faster and more definitively than any comparison article, because the output quality difference is something you feel when you hold both results rather than something you calculate from a spec sheet.
We keep a library of finished sample prints across different materials — PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU in FDM, and standard, ABS-like, and water-washable resin — specifically so visitors can handle them and assess surface quality, flexibility, weight, and finish in their hands rather than from a photo.
This matters most for two decisions: which technology is right for your project, and which material within that technology is appropriate for what the part needs to do. Both questions are significantly easier to answer when you're holding the options.
