Why resin printing specifically suits jewellery and design work

Resin printing (MSLA — Masked Stereolithography) cures a liquid photopolymer resin layer by layer using a UV light source through a high-resolution LCD screen. The result is a surface quality and detail resolution that FDM printing physically cannot match at any price point.

The ELEGOO Saturn 4 Ultra 16K that we run at our Somerset West showroom has a 16K monochrome LCD. At this resolution, surface detail is measurable in microns — which means filigree patterns, facial features on figurines, fine text, and the tight tolerances required for jewellery casting models are all achievable in a single print without hand-finishing.

Lost-wax casting models

Tougher and more impact-resistant than standard resin. Suitable for prototypes that will be handled, tested, or used in a physical demonstration context. Less brittle than standard resin — the recommended choice when the printed part will be picked up, passed around, or used beyond static display.

Tough Resin

Highest mechanical strength of the standard resin types. Suitable for functional resin components, prototypes that will undergo physical testing, and pieces requiring durability beyond what ABS-like delivers.

Water-Washable Resin

Cleaned with water rather than IPA solvent. Produces similar surface quality to standard resin with simpler post-processing. Suitable for most display and prototype applications where ease of cleanup is a consideration.

Dental Resin

Biocompatible resin formulated for dental applications. Dimensionally stable and appropriate for dental study models, orthodontic appliance bases, and diagnostic casts. Requires biocompatibility certification — confirm your specific application requirements when enquiring.
